What is Pougachev cobra manuver ? F-22 ? X-32 ?
Correct me if i’m wrong, It’s 1 of the most difficult manuvers, from level flight, nose up to 105-115 degree AoA for a few seconds, aircraft still in forward motion !! (while the nose is almost backward) then nose returning back to level, the aircraft still flying in a straight line ( parallel to horisontal/ground) without loss of altitude !! (probably very small changes in altitude, about 1-3 feet fluctuation in altitude). I believe, objectively, ONLY only Sukhoi Su-27 (Su-30 & so on ) dan do the maneuver. From the video, I believe F-22 can only do about 55-65 deg AoA and hold it for several seconds, while X-32 (Rockwell & MBB) also only limited to about 80-90 AoA. Yes, X-32 can dance, turn easily in yaw other than any planes on the planet. Aerobatics probably can do cobra but aerobatics probably gain altitude, so it’s not flying in a straight line(not parallel to horisontal/ground). Beside in pitch,Su-27 (Su-30 & so on) can also do cobra sideways (90 deg roll, hold, then do cobra)
This question almost a repitition, so I will touch just some parts.
There are more difficult maneuvers than the Cobra, the Kulbit being one and the Bell, another. And none of those are exclusive to the Sukhoi Flankers. The Kulbit is the extreme extension of the Cobra (And an example for “No AoA Limitation” doubt you had expressed in an earlier post!) and the F/A-22 Raptor has done the Kulbit and I have personally witnessed the MiG-35 do back to back Kulbits. When the Cobra is done sideways (horizontal plane), its called the Hook.
I believe its the X-31 and it isnt the queen in the yaw regime either. I’ve seen the MiG-35 do a boomerang which is much beyond the X-31′s Herbst maneuver.
